The Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC) has accepted a company sustainability award given out at this year’s Argus Biomass Conference in London, U.K.

The award is given to companies that successfully deploy new innovations to achieve sustainability pathways for the future.

In his acceptance remarks shared with Canadian Biomass, WPAC executive director Gordon Murray said their success when it comes to sustainability is driven by setting meaningful and achievable goals.

“I think we can all agree that demonstrating sustainability is critical to the ongoing success of our industry. It must be embedded in our brand. It must be what the public thinks of when they hear the word biomass,” Murray said.

Rather than focusing efforts on changing the minds of the “10 per cent of people against us,” WPAC spends its energy “walking the talk, doing the day-to-day things that demonstrate that we act responsibly. Things like respecting communities, Indigenous groups, and our employees, sourcing our fibre from sustainably managed forests, reducing carbon emissions, all while operating economically stable businesses,” he said.
